A special
note from the editorial staff of CIAO
Over
the past weeks, we have been experiencing a very high level
of use of CIAO and an unusually large number of requests
for free trials for the site from people all over the world.
It is clear that we have become a critical resource for
a large number of people at times when those in the educational
and policy communities need accurate information and analysis
on matters involving international crises.
We
see that our users are seeking immediate and thoughtful
commentary from experts in this area to help them understand
and process all of the information that is available. In
order to address this need, we invited the CIAO scholarly
advisory board to provide brief commentary that suggests
ways to think about what happened, the possible responses
being considered, and the implications of various decisions
and actions. We also asked the board to respond, when they
feel it appropriate, to commentary made by their colleagues.
These are not formal papers or articles, but rather informal
responses and analysis written very soon after the tragic
events.
It
is clear that in the coming days much else is going to take
precedence over thoughtful scholarly analysis. However,
it is already clear that people are beginning to seek information
and analysis to help move forward in thinking about what
this event means for the US and the world, and we are proud
to be able to present commentary of the highest possible
quality from a group that includes the most thoughtful and
respected scholars in the country.
