John Gould is a PhD Candidate in Political Science at Columbia University, New York. He is currently focusing on the role of privatization in democratic and market consolidation in the Czech and Slovak Republics.

Sona Szomolányi is Chair of the Department of Political Science at Comenius University, Bratislava, Slovakia. She is author of numerous articles on social and political development in Slovakia. Among her recent English language work is Slovakia Parliamentary Elections, 1994 edited with Grigorij Meseznikov (Bratislava, Slovakia: Slovak Political Science Association, 1995)
