Abstract

The Transatlantic Bargain was a joint endeavor between the Center for Transatlantic Security Studies and the NATO Defense College, Rome. This volume seeks to explain the changing nature of the codified and uncodified relationship between the Unites States and its transatlantic allies, and the ramifications for the NATO alliance therein. Fourteen authors from the U.S. and Europe, including two former U.S. ambassadors to NATO, present their analysis of the past, present, and future of the European and North American relationship ahead of the NATO's May 2012 Summit in Chicago and beyond.
