Abstract

In anticipation of the US/NATO troop-drawdown and the beginning of the "endgame" in Afghanistan, what course of action is Pakistan likely to take vis-a-vis its western neighbor? This report reflects on Pakistani policy towards Afghanistan and the significance of strategic depth and militant proxies. Coloring this policy is also the ways in which Islamabad feels its position and interests rankled by a growing Indian influence in the Af-Pak theatre, including its ties to the US. The extent to which Pakistani demands are met in the process and aftermath of US/NATO withdrawal from Afghanistan will impact the course taken by Islamabad.
