This Working Paper synthesizes the findings of the 20+ papers presented at the conference on ‘The Financial Crisis and Low Income Countries', held at DIIS in mid-October 2010. These papers explored the impacts, responses and initial lessons of the crisis. In this synthesis, the complex and diverse nature of these impacts at both the aggregate and household levels are highlighted, as is the need to reconsider conventional policy advice. Proposals for future research directions in the area are also presented.
