"Álvaro Uribe Vélez does not stop surprising", say the
majority of Colombian columnists, because since he
reached the presidency he has shown himself to be not
only a leader with a very original style of government,
but also as a president that maintains his popularity at
unseen levels. How can this be explained? What do
journalists and opinion leaders say? This paper carries
out an analysis of opinion columns published in Colombian
newspapers and weeklies in order to explain
the bases of Uribe's popularity, who during his term of
office has the highest rates of acceptance among all of
Colombia's past presidents.
