Abstract

To get a better sense of the direction Ukraine is likely to take after the country’s fiercely competitive presidential election, one has to look beyond the soap opera-like theatrics of Ukrainian politics and consider what is really at stake in the aftermath of the polls. This is no easy task as the highly personalized and bitter contest between Ukraine’s main political rivals has long eclipsed the true nature of the deepseated socio-political processes in this strategic East European country.
