Flexicurity in Italy – how far is Rome from Copenhagen?

Abstract

The Italian labour market reform, approved by the Parliament at the end of June, lays on a good intent and does bring changes in the right direction. However, despite the noble intention and some improvements the reform is failing to bring the long-hoped-for change. Ilaria Maselli argues that more flexicurity-oriented reforms can improve the Italian labour market. She points out the challenges that the country faces in implementing these reforms, emphasizing issues relating to the dualisation of the labour market and the universalisation of welfare provisions.
