The EU Blue Card scheme offers skilled labour migrants access to and onwards mobility within EU’s labour market. Denmark is cut off from participation due to its justice and home affairs opt-out, and instead pursues national schemes for high-skill labour migration. Katrine Borg Albertsen points out the main challenges of both the European and Danish policy schemes. She recommends the EU to further the strategic interaction of social policies to arrive at a competitive joint policy on economic migration, and Denmark to fully participate in the scheme through an opt-in agreement.
