Palestinian Labor Flows to the Israeli Economy: A Finished Story? by Leila Farsakh
This article analyzes employment trends of West Bank and Gaza Palestinians in Israel during the Oslo years (1993–2000). While significantly reduced from pre–1992 levels, Palestinian labor flows to Israel remained important but changed in form and content, revealing contrasting Israeli policies toward the two territories. In Gaza, labor links with Israel were increasingly severed, reflecting the growing separation of the two economies and the transformation of Gaza into a de facto labor reserve. In the West Bank, where the process of economic "Bantustanization" is described, workers continued to be employed beyond the Green Line and in the settlements, enhancing the incorporation of parts of the territory into Israel.
Interview
Looking Back, Looking Forward by Haydar ‘Abd al–Shafi
Dr. ‘Abd al–Shafi, head of the Palestinian negotiting team from the 1991 Madrid peace conference until the signing of the Oslo agreement in 1993, reflects on the situation of the Palestinian people today compared to 1948, the failures of the Palestinian movement historically, the Oslo agreement (providing fresh detail about its signing), and the current impasse. While supporting the military dimension of the current intifada, he spells out strict conditions for Palestinian military action, the imperative need for a unified command, and efforts for and the obstacles to the formation of such a command.

The Sabra and Shatila Massacres: Eye–Witness Reports by Leila Shahid, with an introduction by Linda Butler
These painful and detailed eye witness testimonies, collected in the immediate wake of the 1982 massacres by Leila Shahid (the Palestinian ambassador to France since 1993) and never before published in English, provide a cross section of experiences and vantage points of the four–day killing spree in the camps. The lengthy introduction, based on contemporary chronologies, newspaper accounts, and documents as well as subsequent historical works, discusses Sabra and Shatila against the background of Israel’s 1982 invasion of Lebanon as well as the hour–by–hour evidence concerning Israel’s involvement.
Special Document
The Resolutions of the Thirty–Fourth World Zionist Congress, 17–21 June 2002 introduced and excerpted by Walid Khalidi
The World Zionist Congress, which now meets every four years, is largely ignored by the Western media. Nonetheless, its resolutions are vitally important because of the Congress’s function as "the parliament of the Jewish people, which determines the policies and programs of world Jewry." This document provides extensive excepts of the resolutions of the 34th Congress, shedding light on priorities with regard to such issues as settlement, encouragement of aliyah, the struggle against "anti–Zionism, anti–Semitism, and racism," and securing the release of Jonathan Pollard. A lengthy introduction by Walid Khalidi helps the reader navigate through the complexities of the WZO, its relationship to the Jewish Agency, the organization of the conference itself and the selection of delegates, and the nuances of the resolutions themselves.
