Abstract

The relationship between the economic and political dimensions of security discourses remain under-analyzed in the discipline of International Relations. Yet critical study of the new American security doctrine, of its interventions in Iraq and the effects of the « fight against terrorism » on American society suggest that the contradictory and complex relations between the « political sphere » and the « economic sphere » are at stake. This relationship is articulated just as densely at the level of discourse and practice. Thus the object of this essay is to introduce analysis of the economic dimensions » of security into the debates on the « war against terrorism », while considering the immense contribution of those approaches that are interested in the constructed nature of threats.
