Earlier this year, a lion of American sport and politics - indeed of American life - passed on and, no matter our political affiliations, we are all the lesser for it. The Hon. Jack Kemp, who died on May 2, was a founding member of the Editorial Board of The Journal of International Security Affairs. The cornerstones of Jack's life were his compassion and concern for justice and civil liberties, which he pursued as vigorously as his advocacy of fiscal and personal responsibility. He was a staunch defender of minority rights and equality, a champion of entrepreneurship and of capitalism. Jack Kemp's service to the Editorial Board will be much missed for he was an American - first, last and always - and he understood better than most what made America great. Liberal and conservative, we are all poorer for having lost him. We, at The Journal of International Security Affairs, will miss him greatly.
