The Contributors
Louis Bélanger has been assistant professor in the Department of Political Science at Laval University since 1996. Formerly, he was research associate at Lavals Graduate Institute of International Studies. He is coauthor (with Louis Balthazar and Gordon Mace) of Trente ans de politique extérieure du Québec, 19601990 and has published articles in journals such as Études internationales, American Review of Canadian Studies, Politique et sociétés, and Journal of Interamerican Studies and World Affairs.
Ivan Bernier is professor and former dean of the law faculty at Laval University. He was a research director for the Royal Commission on the Economic Union and Development Prospects for Canada and a former director-general of the Quebec Center for International Relations. Recent publications include Souveraineté et protectionnisme en matière culturelle (with David Atkinson and Florian Sauvageau), Développement culturel et mondialisation de léconomie: un enjeu démocratique (with Marc Raboy, David Atkinson, and Florian Sauvageau), and articles in journals such as Études internationales, Les Cahiers de droit, and Annuaire canadien de droit international.
André C. Drainville is associate professor in the Department of Political Science at Laval University. A specialist in international political economy, he has developed an expertise on international financial relations and social movements strategies with regard to globalization. His articles have appeared in Social Justice, Comparative Urban and Community Review, Studies in Political Economy, Alternatives, and Review of International Economy.
Klaus Peter Fischer is associate professor in the Department of Finance and Insurance and codirector of the Centre de recherche en économie et finance appliquée (CREFA), both at Laval University. He has published in a number of journals, including the Journal of International Finance, Problemas del Desarrollo: Revista Latinoamericana de Economía, Global Finance Journal, and Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance. He has also compiled books and special journal issues on financial management in developing countries.
Guy Gosselin is professor of political science at Laval University. A specialist of international organizations, particularly the UN and the OAS, he has published articles in journals such as Global Governance, Études internationales, and Revue québécoise de science politique.
Bernard Lemelin is assistant professor in the Department of History at Laval University. A specialist of contemporary history of U.S. politics and foreign policy, his research focuses mostly on the Truman period and the internal dynamics of foreign policy making in the United States. His articles have been published in SHARF Newsletter, Bulletin dhistoire politique, and Canadian Review of American Studies, among others.
Gordon Mace is professor in the Department of Political Science and at the Graduate Institute of International Studies at Laval University. The former editor of the newsletter of the Canadian Political Science Association, he is also director of the Research Group on International Relations at Laval. Recent publications include Foreign Policy and Regionalism in the Americas (edited with Jean-Philippe Thérien), Trente ans de politique extérieure du Québec, 19601990 (with Louis Balthazar, Louis Bélanger, and contributors), and pieces in journals such as International Journal, Canadian Public Policy, Études internationales, Canadian Journal of Latin American and Caribbean Studies, International Journal of Canadian Studies, and Journal of Interamerican Studies and World Affairs.
Martin Roy is a policy analyst at the Canadian Foundation for the Americas (FOCAL) and a former research associate at the Graduate Institute of International Studies at Laval University. Recent publications include Les paradoxes de lintégration économique dans le cône sud-américain: pice, ticd et mercosur sous langle des stratégies internationales de lArgentine and Les conséquences de lALÉNA sur les relations du Canada avec le Mexique (with Ivan Bernier).
Maria Regina Soares de Lima is professor in the Political Science Graduate Program of the Instituto Universitário de Pesquisas do Rio de Janeiro and also teaches at the Institute of International Relations of the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. Recent articles include Between Neo-Alignment and Neo-Autonomy: Is There a Third Way in U.S.-Brazilian Relations? (with Monica Hirst), Brazils Response to the New Regionalism, and Teses Equivocadas sobre a Ordem Mundial Pos-Guerra Fria.
Jean-Philippe Thérien associate professor in the Department of Political Science at Université de Montréal, where he is also director of the undergraduate studies program. He has published articles in journals such as Global Governance, International Journal, International Organization, Canadian Journal of Political Science, International Social Science Journal, and Journal of Interamerican Studies and World Affairs. He is coeditor of Foreign Policy and Regionalism in the Americas (with Gordon Mace).
